Counselling for Parents with Babies or Toddlers

Becoming a parent is a wonderful and precious experience for most of us. Establishing a family and bringing a new human being into the world, accompanying and loving that child is something we can be grateful for. We would like our children to enjoy a happy, healthy and satisfying life and want to provide them with the best start in life.

In their first years children, together with their parents, must manage the tasks related to the individual child's development. Young children develop continuously and parents must adapt again and again to each new situation.

Each child has his/her individual needs and developmental tasks; parents are puzzled by their baby's or toddler's behaviour. Why is my baby crying? Why won't my baby go to sleep? Why is my toddler being difficult? Why won't my toddler eat?

Young children pose considerable challenges to their parents' competence in coping with the issues related to bringing them up. Many parents feel they have been left alone with these problems and are not taken seriously enough.

Through my counselling for parents with babies and toddlers, I would like to help you increase and strengthen your parental competence and so build up your child's abilities. I would like to assist you in supporting your child's development competently and calmly.

How I can help

After you have contacted me (preferably by email), we can agree on a time for a brief phone call in which you let me know what you wish us to talk about. We can then make further arrangements.

We will make an appointment to meet in my practice, talk on the phone or via video.

To allow me an objective insight into your daily life, I would ask you to compile in advance sleep and feeding diaries covering several days. You are welcome to send me a home video (e.g. of the situation at bedtime).

Then we can talk about the developmental issue (whether related to sleeping, crying or feeding) and discuss the diaries you have been keeping.

In addition, as a medical doctor I can of course examine your child to rule out any organic causes.

I will then inform you about child development and carry out individual counselling.

Our aim is to work out and agree on measures suited to both you and your child: to signpost a path that you and your family can take together.
