Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology

In my pediatric gastroenterology consultation, I take care of any complaints in the digestive area of children. Complaints such as acute and chronic abdominal pain, food intolerances such as cow's milk allergy, constipation or diarrhea, celiac disease and also liver diseases are examined and cared for in my consultation. 

 

For this purpose, sonographic examinations, laboratory diagnostics such as blood tests, stool tests, H2 breath tests as well as the C13 urea breath test are used.

 

Pediatric gastroenterological issues include 

 

Diseases of the digestive tract and organs including the gallbladder and pancreas in children of all ages. These include

  • abdominal pain, bloating, constipation or diarrhea

  • Weight problems such as being overweight (obesity) or underweight (failure to thrive)

  • Gastroesophageal reflux and gastritis

  • Helicobacter pylori gastritis

  • Functional complaints such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional abdominal pain

  • Celiac disease

  • Constipation or diarrhea

  • Food intolerances and allergies such as fructose malabsorption, lactose intolerance or cow's milk allergy

  • Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases

  • Nutritional counseling

Pediatric hepatology for example is concerned with:

 

Congenital or acquired liver diseases of all origins in children (e.g. autoimmune hepatitis, infectious hepatitis, biliary atresia, Alagille syndrome, etc.).

Assessment of elevated Liver function tests (LFT’s) 

Enlargements of the liver.

  • All previous findings

  • If possible a stool sample
